This post is long over due as this project was completed almost 2 years ago now... but lets be honest writing a blog post takes time! I am trying to set aside time every month to work on these now so hopefully I will be more consistent!
As many of you know this project was different than other renovations... this project had more emotions in it. This was the kitchen I grew up in for the majority of my childhood... this was the kitchen that I cried in, laughed in... probably yelled at my Mom in at some point in my teenage years (haha)... this one had personal memories - so to watch it get torn apart was both exciting but also a little sad...
This kitchen defines the style between a mother and daughter... my mom encouraged me to choose the majority of the finishes... she chose her cabinet colors and I pushed her a little out of her comfort zone here and there. For example: the use of black hardware...when I asked her about her existing bar stools she said "let's keep them, they will look great" and while I wasn't too sure, she was right! Enjoy these photos below.
First a few before photos... as you will see below in the after photos we kept the footprint the same, we did extend the cabinets a bit on the one wall and added a permanent island but for the most part nothing too drastic changed. We had to get rid of the track lighting and the fan, we also scraped off all of that popcorn! ;)
And now the after photos! To say I love how everything turned out would be an understatement:
The cabinets used to stop right about here (where the cookes are!) but instead we extended it a bit on this wall to allow for this cute coffee bar area as well as a pantry with pull out shelves. Top priority is always FUNCTION in my books.
Had to make sure to add a photo of the light fixture over the island, the three of us met at Rona one day to choose a light and suprisingly enough, my step dad Brian picked this out and I think its PERFECT! Who would have known he had an eye for lighting!
Here they are pictured below, I would say by this photo they are both relieved the reno is over and excited about all of the new memories that will be made here.
